Supramolecular functionalization and concomitant enhancement in properties of Au25 clusters
2014
We present a versatile approach for tuning the surface functionality of an atomically precise 25 atom gold cluster using specific host-guest interactions between ?-cyclodextrin (CD) and the ligand anchored on the cluster. The supramolecular interaction between the Au25 cluster protected by 4-(t-butyl)benzyl mercaptan, labeled Au25SBB18, and CD yielding Au25SBB18?CDn (n = 1, 2, 3, and 4) has been probed experimentally using various spectroscopic techniques and was further analyzed by density functional theory calculations and molecular modeling. The viability of our method in modifying the properties of differently functionalized Au25 clusters is demonstrated. Besides modifying their optoe…
Study of the Partial Substitution of Pb by Sn in Cs-Pb-Sn-Br Nanocrystals Owing to Obtaining Stable Nanoparticles with Excellent Optical Properties.
2018
Halide perovskites are revolutionizing the photovoltaic and optoelectronic fields with outstanding performances obtained in a remarkably short time. However, two major challenges remain: the long-term stability and the Pb content, due to its toxicity. Despite the great effort carried out to substitute the Pb by a less hazardous element, lead-free perovskite still remains more unstable than lead-containing perovskites and presents lower performance as well. In this work, we demonstrate the colloidal preparation of Cs–Pb–Sn–Br nanoparticles (NPs) where Sn is incorporated up to 18.8%. Significantly, we have demonstrated that the partial substitution of Pb by Sn does not produce a deleterious e…
On the Shape-Selected, Ligand-Free Preparation of Hybrid Perovskite (CH3NH3PbBr3) Microcrystals and Their Suitability as Model-System for Single-Crys…
2021
Hybrid perovskite materials are one of the most promising candidates for optoelectronic applications, e.g., solar cells and LEDs, which can be produced at low cost compared to established materials. Although this field of research has seen a huge upsurge in the past decade, there is a major lack in understanding the underlying processes, such as shape-property relationships and the role of defects. Our aerosol-assisted synthesis pathway offers the possibility to obtain methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3 ) microcrystals from a liquid single source precursor. The differently shaped particles are aligned on several substrates, without using a directing agent or other additives. The obtained …
Assembly-Induced Bright-Light Emission from Solution-Processed Platinum(II) Inorganic Polymers
2019
Synthesis, processing, and characterization are reported for a series of tetracyanoplatinate Magnus' salt (TCN-MS) derivatives-soluble derivatives of the generally intractable Magnus' green salt-that feature the general structure [Pt(NH2R)(4)] [Pt(CN)(4)] where R is a branched alkyl group or a w-phenylalkyl group. In solutions, these coordination compounds generally dissolve on the level of individual ion pairs as shown by X-ray diffraction analysis. To enable the formation of quasi-one-dimensional linear stacks of Pt(II) atoms in thin films, the matrix-assisted assembly is employed, whereby the compounds are codissolved with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), followed by film casting, thermally a…
Self-organization and nanostructural control in thin film heterojunctions.
2013
In spite of more than two-decades of studies of molecular self-assembly, the achievement of low cost, easy-to-implement and multi-parameter bottom-up approaches to address the supramolecular morphology in three-dimensional (3D) systems is still missing. In the particular case of molecular thin films, the 3D nanoscale morphology and function are crucial for both fundamental and applied research. Here we show how it is possible to tune the 3D film structure (domain size, branching, etc.) of thin film heterojunctions with nanoscale accuracy together with the modulation of their optoelectronic properties by employing an easy two-step approach. At first we prepared multi-planar heterojunctions w…
Properties of titanium dioxide
2021
"Properties of titanium dioxide" presents a survey of the main physicochemical properties of TiO2 upon which rely all of the applications of this material. Structures and morphologies of titanium dioxide have been taken into account, also in correlation with thermodynamic properties. Bulk and surface defectivity has been described in detail, because of its relevant consequences in terms of catalytic activity. The basic mechanisms of interaction between photons and TiO2 have been discussed on the basis of the optoelectronic features of the semiconductor. Finally, electrical, mechanical, and rheological properties of TiO2 have been presented.
